Skin testing is the application of pollens, dust mites, pet allergens, molds and foods to the skin, to see if your body reacts to them with redness, itching and swelling. They are applied to the forearm or upper arms with tiny pin pricks. They are carefully chosen based on your history and can usually be completed with less than 20 allergens. The results are available in about 15 minutes.
An alternative testing method is to use a blood test. Although we will sometimes use this technique, the preferred method is to use skin test which is generally more accurate, less expensive and gives immediate results.
